Accessible through the Format/Conditional Formatting menu, formatting is a tool that allows the operator to automatically apply a format, such as border color, font color, or cell shading. For this, a specific condition must be met. It is very useful for highlighting or quickly visualizing certain data in a results table.

How does conditional formatting appear in Excel?

To access conditional formatting in Microsoft Excel, the operator must use the Format/Conditional Formatting menu. Once in this menu, you have the option to set the conditions based on your project via the dialog box. Furthermore, this formatting applies to the range of cells or the active cell. In this feature, the user can use two conditions. They can select the option “Cell value is” based on the cell’s content and the option “Formula is” when they want to define a formula. By choosing the option “Cell value is,” you will have a list of operators at your disposal. In this case, you can select an operator from this list before indicating the data to be checked in the right-hand field(s). At this point, the user can refer to the content of other cells or alphanumeric data. As for the “Formula is” function, it allows testing a logical function. When used in a conditional formatting in Excel, it returns a True or False result.
